I do basic weather watching for the National Weather Service. I have always wanted to measure wind speeds, living on the East coast in hurricane area, but wasn't sure what to get and which one was trustworthy. I was reading about this Anemometer and it appeared to be good and the price was great. I ordered it and it works great so far. Had it a little over a month and it is holding up good. It is simple to use and shows outside temp. readings also. The neck strap I love so I don't have to worry about dropping it. I would recommend this one to anyone who wants to measure wind speeds. The only negative thing I could say is I wish it measured wind speeds up to like 100 mph or more...but I guess I wouldn't be standing up very long if it did...lol

Very small unit, but very handy. Lanyard hangs it around your neck, but it would be nice to have a little pouch to protect it if you want to put it in your pocket. Great value.

Many handheld anemometers are pricy but this one is inexpensive and good. Only real limitation is to the max windspeed. So if you chase hurricanes then you my want something else!br /br /Temp seems to be quick to adjust but does not seem to take it externally. Great for outdoor use since it seems to be sealed from the elements quite well. I cant wait to test it out in next year's storm chase season!

For enthusiasts of sailing, hang-gliding, kite flying, or for coastal dwellers, this anemometer measures wind speed and direction so you can assess if the conditions are right for your activity. The measuring range for wind speed goes up to 125 miles per hour and for wind direction is between 0 and 359 degrees. The unit also displays wind chill temperature between –99 degrees C to 70 degrees F. The accuracy rate of wind speed measurements is plus or minus 0.4 miles per hour and, in steady wind conditions, the anemometer transmits new data to the display once every minute. Powered by a solar transmitter, the anemometer also comes with two 1.5-volt batteries for backup power and offers 433 MHz wireless transmission up to 300 feet. This unit is compatible with other Oregon Scientific wireless weather station products and is covered by a 90-day warranty. I--Cristina Vaamonde/I The Anemometer measures wind speed and direction. The anemometer wind speed operating range is up to 125 miles per hour and has a accuracy resolution of +/- (plus or minus) 0.4mph. In steady wind conditions the anemometer transmits new readings to the display unit once every minute. Wind direction operating range is 00 to 3590. Data transmission to the display unit occurs every 14-seconds. The anemometer is powered by a solar cell with battery backup. This unit only works with a compatible Oregon Scientific Weather Station which is not included and must be purchased separately.

As a trained advanced weather spotter, it was recommended that I get an anemometer. This unit is easy to use but I haven't had to use it to measure severe weather conditions. I'm not crazy about button cell batteries, but that is he trade-off to keep the unit small and light. Fortunately, it does use a common CR2032 3V battery.

Not Happy! - jlsjcs33 -
I received the product with a 16 year old battery, after replacing the battery the unit still didn't work. I had to send it back to the factory for a replacement, all of whick took an additional three weeks from the time I received the first anemometer. Works fine now, but what a hassele.

The instruction "page" is difficult to figure out exactly how to use this device. After trial and error, it is working as described. I'm not happy with the slow response to wind changes but I guess I don't need to know the wind chaging from 3mph to 3.5mph as fast as I thought.br /
