As a trained advanced weather spotter, it was recommended that I get an anemometer. This unit is easy to use but I haven't had to use it to measure severe weather conditions. I'm not crazy about button cell batteries, but that is he trade-off to keep the unit small and light. Fortunately, it does use a common CR2032 3V battery.

About 5 seconds after powering up, the anemometer reports the current wind speed in either miles per hour, kilometers per hour, meters per second, or Knots plus, displays wind speed on a Beaufort Scale bar graph. The module also records the maximum and average wind speeds for any 2- to 10-second period of time, and recalls them at the user’s prompting. This anemometer also measures current temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius and wind chill. The LCD screen has a backlight, making the display easy to read even in low-light conditions. The display automatically turns off every 8 seconds in order to preserve the life of the 3-volt lithium cell battery. Not Happy! - jlsjcs33 -
I received the product with a 16 year old battery, after replacing the battery the unit still didn't work. I had to send it back to the factory for a replacement, all of whick took an additional three weeks from the time I received the first anemometer. Works fine now, but what a hassele.

The instruction "page" is difficult to figure out exactly how to use this device. After trial and error, it is working as described. I'm not happy with the slow response to wind changes but I guess I don't need to know the wind chaging from 3mph to 3.5mph as fast as I thought.br /

This is the product I chose for a quick-and-dirty checkout of a house duct system. It is more accurate than an IR thermometer and provides the air flow data to determine if there is a duct problem. I am pleased with the product and hope that it lasts quite awhile.

The anemometer wind meter, Skywatch Atmos by JDC USA, offers wind speed measurement, average wind speed, maximum wind speed, temperature, maximum temperature, a compass on the cap, relative humidity and auto shut off after 10 minutes. The Skywatch Atmos will measure wind in your choice of km/h, mph, m/s, fps, knots, or Beaufort, with a +/- 4 percent accuracy, up to wind speeds of 125 mph (200 km/h). The Atmos will also measure temperature with a +/- 1% accuracy in both Fahrenheit and Celsius. The temperature range is 5F to 122F (-14C to 50C). The balanced impeller allows for wind measurement from any direction and the impeller is magnetized, producing a magnetic field when rotating which is measured internally. The external thermometer is located under wind cups allowing to quick temperature adjustments. The relative humidity is dependant on measured temperature so the thermometer needs to adjust for accuracy.
