Bios Wireless Wind Weather Station w/ Temp Humidity Review
Positive aspects:br /- if placed right, wind speed and temperature measurements are accuratebr /- price is well below other systemsbr /br /Negative aspects:br /- min/max recording is uselessbr /- no wind directionbr /- no way to capture the data to a PC or suchbr /br /I bought this because I live near a windy area and wanted to see just HOW windy. The outdoor temperature was a bonus, as was relative humidity.br /br /Setup was easy if you'd set up a system like this before -- I had -- and the key is to put the batteries in the display unit BEFORE putting them in the instrument package. Then figure out where to put the instrument package.br /br /Any anemometer will give its best readings if it's up off the ground at least a few feet above any nearby wind obstructions, so I got ten feet of 1" PVC pipe and tie-wrapped it to a support for a freestanding deck. The display talks to the instrument package wirelessly, so no need to string cables. That worked well for the wind speed, but the temperature sensor? Ah, there's a serious design flaw.br /br /You want an outdoor temp sensor to be at least four feet off the ground and NEVER in direct sunlight. Hmmm... the temp sensor sits about two inches from the anemometer cups, and they've got to be several feet in the air above any wind obstruction... oh well. On sunny days, the thermometer registers a few degrees above reality. The relative humidity reading seems dead-on (there's a NOAA site about a mile from my house and so I use their numbers as "official").br /br /The display unit tracks minimum and maximum values for its data, but thing is that it's useless in that you have no idea WHEN those data were recorded. As to the lack of wind direction and PC connection, I wouldn't expect it for what this costs.br /br /All in all, a nice basic unit.

Extremely Poor Quality - C. J. Jalowy - Lincoln City, OR USA
I bought the unit back in December of 2009. It lasted about 5 days the first time. I put in new batteries, then it lasted about 2 weeks. After that, nothing I tried worked. I contacted the manufacture and sent the unit back to them (their brochure indicated a 5 year warranty). It took them nearly 4 weeks, but they finally said the unit was defective and sent me a new unit. The new unit worked for about 5 days. Now it no longer works. I contacted the manufacture again, but got little resolution. I have contacted the distributor for re-imbursement and am waiting to hear from them. Buyer beware on this product.
